New Spring 2008 Training Course dates announced - click for details

Over the last few months, SPECAL has been changing and growing.

The numbers of attendees on our new training courses based on the SPECAL Photograph Album understanding of dementia have reached record levels.

Carers, whether family members, friends or professionals, have been learning about the SPECAL method and how to apply SPECAL sense – how to manage dementia in a counter-intuitive way which leads to a positive experience for everyone. We are attracting attention from far afield – Japan, South Africa and Australia have all sent people to us. A book on SPECAL by best-selling author Oliver James is to be published by Random House in August 2008. All this is inspiring news and the future promises much. Where dementia is concerned, SPECAL really does work.

It is therefore with the deepest sadness and regret that the Trustees of SPECAL must announce that they can no longer afford to keep the Burford hospital site running, and that from 30th January 2008 these premises must close. The Trustees have to clarify how best to sustain a model training centre where the SPECAL Approach can be demonstrated in practice.

Meantime the work of SPECAL goes on.
